Midterm 3/2/12
English 1102 is by far one of the best English classes I have taken in college. As my friends, you should know that I love books, literature and English in general, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that I enjoy this class. This class is a lot different than any other English I have ever taken because of the way the teacher, Ms. Ingram, composes her class and assignments. In this class I have uncovered a lot about myself, how i feel about certain things and why I feel so strongly about them. This class asks you to question why you think something, it makes you delve deeper into yourself and others beliefs. This type of learning is really helpful and makes the learning/writing process a lot more fun and informative. I think that is why I enjoy this class so much, because it encourages you to think deeply about something, instead of just going out and getting sources and writing about what others think and say. This class also has group workshops, where you sit down with your group and basically break down your thoughts, give and receive constructive criticism. This exercise really works for me because it lets me know if I am on the right page with my writing.
So far in this class my favorite assignment has been the "what is it like to be you" paper. I know it sounds kind of conceited, seeing as the paper was about me, but I really enjoyed going back and reflecting on my life and the people that have influenced me. For as long as I can remember I have kept a journal, and It was fun to go back as read the thousands on entries from the past 19 years. Going back and remembering the amazing times in my life, remembering the felling of complete happiness, made me feel as if I were back in time and feeling those emotions all over again. Also I wanted to give credit to all the people in my life that have made me who I am, like my parents and God. I enjoy being able to express myself through my writing, and letting the audience, my classmates and teacher, know my opinion and thoughts. One thing that made this essay easier to write was that my audience of classmates are also going through college and are facing some of the same things I am facing, because we are all students working toward a degree. Some of the writing skills that I had to work on during the process of this paper were putting my emotion into my writing, and letting the readers feel what I felt, trying to define myself in the words. The last time I wrote a narrative essay about my life I was a whole different person, and the differences between the papers is drastic. I wanted to give all the Glory to God for the person I am today in this paper, where in the others I wanted to take credit for being me. The main goal for this paper was to have the reader read the essay and know the blueprint of me, to know the reason I get up in the morning, why I live the life I live. When I revise this essay for the final draft at the end of this semester I plan to give a more descriptive view of my Mom, so the reader can understand more fully why she is a role model for me and the impact she has had on my life. This essay has made me uncover that I am the person I am because of the people in my life and the amazing God I serve, not from my own accomplishments. I am blessed beyond imagine.
I think that the start of the semester with the reading of Peace Butter & Jelly was really nice. I had never read a book like PB&J before so it was a whole new experience for me. The topics of the book helped me to understand better the whole topic question for the class, "what does it mean to be healthy ?". I think it was a great start to the semester and really pressed me to think about the inquiry of healthiness.
This class is awesome
and full of inquiry
it boggles my mind

4th Blog Post!
What have I learned? We'll to tell the truth I have learned tons through these last few weeks of research!
One of the first things I learned was that your topic needs to not be too broad, or it will be impossible to contain all of the information in your paper. So You need to think over your topic inquiry for a little while before investing a lot of time in it and realizing its one of those impossible topics. Secondly, I have learned that you have to be interested in your own topic. I mean, if you aren't interested in your topic how do you expect anyone else to be interested in it.
Research takes time and effort. If you aren't willing to put in time and brain power into your inquiry question then you definitely have a huge problem on your hands.
You need a variety of sources books, legit websites, etc. to make your topic more interesting to your audience. Also you might have to step out of your comfort zone in order to understand your inquiry question. Also I have learned that you need to write for yourself, it is your inquiry, your audience doesn't have to agree with or even like your paper.
Writing should be fun : )
Most of all I have learned that I, a Christian, have not been doing all of the things that God calls me to do as believer in Christ. I have definitely been slack in more than one area of my Faith.

3rd Blog : )
1.) -Trying to decide who the audience of my research paper will be is a really hard question for me, because I believe my topic and its results should be heard my everyone, young and old. But, if I had to choose one specific group to really reach through my paper it would be college age people, or students, like myself. I have chosen this age group because I understand them the best, and I feel like I can relate my research to what they go through in their daily lives.
- I believe that I can make my topic timely, in the fact that I can take my research and relate it directly to what is happening in the life of a college student. I want to be able to pinpoint the benefits of living a healthy spiritual life, and what it means to be spiritually healthy.
- I am a Christian and I believe that in researching and delving deeper into what it means to be truly spiritually healthy is just another way to spread the word of God and tell others of God's amazing and merciful love for them. This research has also taught me things I had not known about be a spiritually healthy, so it is a way for me to learn more and grow in God. Its pretty awesome : )
2.) In my research I have a couple different types of sources, books, websites, and interviews. I interviewed my Pastor and his wife, who both have degrees in seminary, and they gave amazing interviews with a lot of biblical backup and reference to other well known theologians. I also interviewed some of the strong Christians in my church and they gave amazing interviews also, but their interviews were more about what they felt.
I have been amazed and saddened by all the sites that go against God and his love that I have come across in my research : (
3.) During my research I was studying in Psalm 116, where it gives ways to live a Spiritually healthy life, in Believing in Him, crying out to Him, Following Him, Drinking in his word, Obeying Him, Serving Him, Thanking Him, and Following Him. I have probably read that passage before but this time of reading it, it took on a whole new meaning to me. I understood what God was saying through the words of the Psalm. This is how we are to live our lives!

2nd Post : )
I have been amazed at the types of sources I have come across in my initial research, from Biblical sources to witch craft books, but by fair my favorite source and the most interesting for me, would be the Bible. As a Christian, we learn everything we know about God and our Faith from the Bible, God's Holy Word, so it just seems logical in researching Christian spirituality that the Bible would be the main source of information. I have been saved for over six years and I have read the Bible, but through this research process I am learning things that didn't know or things I have over looked about being Spiritually right and healthy.
-At first my topic inquiry was, "What does it mean to be Spiritually Healthy?"
Im finding out that their are millions of meaning to the word "spiritual". So i have decided to make my inquiry about only Christian Spirituality. I have had a time with sorting through all the different types and opinions of spiritual health and have spent at least a couple hours looking up people to see if they have the background to put any real meaning behind their own words, or if it is just their opinion. For this reason I have stuck close to the Bible, because I know that all the words in it are true and they are from God, I don't have to worry about false telling like I would if I siting a Joel Osteen book. I believe that narrowing my inquiry will make my paper easier to read because it's focused on one type of spirituality instead of a mixture of the millions now practiced.
- I have really enjoyed researching this topic, but one of the challenges I have come across so far is finding a source that is just telling about Christian Spirituality, and not putting Christian vs Muslim, etc. It is very disheartening to see how many books are totally against Christianity.
- One tip i would give my peers is to use your time wisely. Don't wait till the last minute to do your research, know your topic!

-What does it mean to be spiritually healthy?
For me, this is a very challenging question that is tied directly into be a fully healthy human being. I am a Christian and my Faith guides me in my everyday life, in everything I do. I believe that in order to be a healthy person you should cover all your bases, starting with your spiritual health. Are you right with God? Are you living the life that God wants you to live?
I have learned that their is never a limit to my knowledge and understanding of God and his amazing Grace, and i expect to learn more and more about the Lord in my research of this topic of understanding what it means to be spiritually healthy. I also want to look at how being spiritually healthy can influence your physical and mental health states as well.
Religion is a very touchy subject for most of the world, and through my research I know I will run across a lot of different opinions and views, some that are totally different than my own. I look at this research as just another way to gain and learn more about God.
